Maple Syrup Skipper Bars


1/4-cup shortening or half butter and shortening
1/2-cup sugar
1/4-cup brown sugar, packed
2-rounded Tablespoons creamy peanut butter
1-egg
1/4-cup maple syrup
1/2-teaspoon vanilla
1-cup flour
1-teaspoon baking powder
1/8-teaspoon salt
2-Tablespoons chopped nuts
Confectioner’s sugar
 

Cream shortening with sugars. Blend in peanut butter, egg, maple syrup and vanilla. Sift together the flour,
baking powder and salt. Blend into first mixture; stir in nuts. Spread batter on greased 15x8 inch cookie sheet. 

Bake 350 degrees for 15 minutes. 
Cool; sprinkle lightly with sifted confectioner’s sugar.
Cut into 1-inch bars. 
If desired, batter may be sprinkled with additional chopped nuts before baking.

Yield: 15 bars
